Chiropractic is known as the science of locating and removing interferences with the transmission or expression of nerve force in the human body by the correction of misalignments or subluxations of the bony structures, more especially of the vertebral column and pelvis, for the purpose of restoring and maintaining health. In order to understand our bodies better, we must know that our bodies have the knowledge and ability, innate intelligence, to keep us healthy. This intelligence controls the heart rate, breathing, digestion, and every other organ and cell in our bodies. If the organs and cells properly receive instructions from the brain by way of the nervous system, our body is able to reach and maintain its optimum level of health. However, if there is any interference with the transmission of those instructions, the result is less-than-optimum health. Our bodies can no longer function normally.
We have approximately 200 bones in our bodies. Where these bones come together they form a joint that allows us to move. This area is where misalignments or subluxations may occur. These changes create interferences to vital nerve signals on their way to and from the brain. A subluxation may be caused from any type of stress that is greater than the body can handle. Physical stresses such as falls, accidents, a difficult birth, sports, computer work, or long car rides can strain the muscles, ligaments, and joints, causing a subluxation. Chemical stresses such as pollutants and emotional stresses can cause an overall tightening of the muscular system and therefore cause spinal strain.
The purpose of chiropractic is to locate and correct subluxations. Although there are several adjusting techniques, chiropractors accomplish the same thing. They restore the joint or vertebrae to their normal position or function so that the nerve flow can resume its normal course thereby restoring health to the corresponding tissues.
People today are sick and tired of being sick and tired. In order for us to feel better, change must occur. Most people, of course, do not like change. Change in our lives interrupts our routines and habits. I feel that understanding the basics is a great place to start on the road back to health and wellness by understanding and creating a strong chemical, mental, and physical foundation held by a strong structure. So, let’s work together to build a healthier lifestyle and reduce chasing symptoms.
