- Allopathic Medicine: sometimes referred to as conventional
medicine, allopathy is traditional Western medicine practiced by an
MD (medical doctor) or DO (doctor of osteopathy) in which diseases
are treated by the use of drugs that produce different effects than
the symptoms that are created by the disease.
- Allopathy: coined in 1842 by C.F.S. Hahnemann, allopathy is a
concept that is the opposite of the idea of homeopathy, which
contends that “like cures like.”
- Alternative Healthcare: practices that may be used instead of
standard medical treatment.
- Aromatherapy: a branch of herbal medicine using extracts from
aromatic plants to treat illnesses or improve emotional or mental

- Aromatic plants: plants having a pleasant, characteristic odor
(fragrant, sweet-smelling, spicy).
- Astrology: The study of celestial bodies to gain insight on events
happening in our lives based on the belief that both planetary and
earthly events happen simultaneously and are mutually reflective.
- Ayurveda: an ancient Indian science based on analyzing a person’s
distinct life energies, or doshas. Suggestions for positive thinking,
diet, exercise, herbs, and meditation are given to restore health by
balancing the mind, body, and spirit.
